I feel like I have a preface with every book review. As a reminder, I have not read this series in order and here’s a quick recap why:
I read the synopsis, checked Goodreads and it said “Series: Threads of Power (#1)” so I assumed it was the first book and thus safe to read.
It’s clearly been established that these characters start their story three books prior. So, I know what is to come of them to a point, and in essence I’ve been reading their origin story.
With that being said, I enjoyed this book even more than the first one but that might be because I’m in a hurry to see them get through their backstories. I think Schwab does an incredible job with her character’s personalities and flaws. They feel real and logical. I look forward to book three in this series.
Why Not a 5 Star Read
What kept this from being a five-star book for me is that for as much I do enjoy the characters, this book lacked character growth. From beginning to end, the main characters don’t evolve or grow much. They’re pretty static. Beyond the characters, I also want more of the other Londons. I mean, it’s a central part of the entire book, this setting with different Londons, yet we hardly see any in this book. Even with these two gripes, it was entertaining and fun and a four-star read for me!
