My Friends – Fredrik Backman

My Friends by Fredrick Backman

What can I say about Fredrick Backman that I haven’t said in other reviews? He is one, if not the only author who makes me hesitate when it comes to deciding whether or not to DNF a book. I’ve never read an author who can wrap up books as beautifully as Backman. There’s a poetic quality to the way he intertwines various threads, and “My Friends” is no exception.

My Friends is a slow burn, a story that unfolds as it needs to, in a pace all of its own and if you’re patient, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible story of friendship, love, and found family.

Backman once again demonstrates his skill in creating beautifully flawed characters. Each character is multi-dimensional, relatable, and deeply human, making it impossible not to fall in love with them and root for their journeys.

This may be a challenging book to surpass in 2025, as it sets a high benchmark for storytelling that is both heartfelt and thought-provoking.
